Το δεύτερο Open the Gates φεστιβάλ έχει πλέον καταγραφεί στο ιστορικό του μεταλλικού κόσμου του νησιού μας. Ένα διήμερο γεμάτο επικά σχήματα, τόσο τοπικά, όσο και από το εξωτερικό.
ARS NOTORIA
Το εναρκτήριο λάκτισμα έγινε από τους ARS NOTORIA. Η Κυπριακή ελληνόφωνη χέβι μέταλ μπάντα άνοιξε την αυλαία, παίζοντας τα δικά τους κομμάτια από το EP τους που κυκλοφόρησε το 2023. Άρτια δεμένοι μεταξύ τους στην σκηνή, με τα γυναικεία φωνητικά να κατακλύζουν τον χώρο, ο κόσμος γούσταρε και σιγά σιγά γέμιζε το μαγαζί.

MANILLA ROAD TRIBUTE
Φόρος τιμής στην θρυλική Αμερικάνικη μπάντα και στην μνήμη του Mark Sheldon. Διάφορα μέλη από την μουσική σκηνή έδωσαν το παρόν τους παίζοντας τις αγαπημένες κυκλοφορίες των Manilla Road, φέρνοντας δυνατές μνήμες στο φανατικό κοινό.

RECEIVER
Μετά και την κυκλοφορία του ντεπούτου δίσκου τους τον περασμένο Οκτώβριο (διαβάστε την άποψη μας -εδώ-), οι RECEIVER δεν σταματούν να εντυπωσιάζουν με την μουσική τους. Γουστάρεις τα κομμάτια τους ένα προς ένα και αυτό επιβεβαιώνεται με την ευχαρίστηση που βγάζει ο κόσμος. Είναι η δεύτερη μπάντα με γυναικεία φωνητικά στο φεστιβάλ.

Γιορτινή εμφάνιση για τους HARDRAW, αφού την ίδια μέρα 5 Απριλίου κυκλοφόρησαν το δεύτερο ολοκληρωμένο άλμπουμ τους με την Pitch Black Records (διαβάστε την άποψη μας -εδώ-). Έπαιξαν ζωντανά μερικά από τα καινούρια τους κομμάτια και τα κλασσικά διαμάντια τους.

TRIUMPHER
Ποδαρικό στην Κύπρο για τους Έλληνες TRIUMPHER. Η πρώτη τους φορά που επισκέπτονται το νησί μας, και η πρώτη φορά που τους βλέπω εγώ ζωντανά επί σκηνής. Τρομερή ενέργεια πάνω στη σκηνή, με ένα συνδυασμό χέβι/power μουσική όπου η φωνή μερικές φορές σου θυμίζει μπλάκ μέταλ. Το σχήμα δημιουργήθηκε πριν από 5 χρόνια και κυκλοφόρησαν τον ντεπούτο δίσκο τους το 2023, και ακούσαμε κομμάτια από αυτόν. Επίσης έπαιξαν διασκευή του Blood of my Enemies των Manowar.

Είχε περάσει αρκετός καιρός από την τελευταία φορά που τους είδα live και ανυπομονούσα πολύ να τους ακούσω ξανά. Δεν σταματάς να χορταίνεις τις τσιρίδες από τις φωνητικές χορδές του Πέτρου Λεπτού σε συνδυασμό με τα επικά ακούσματα του σχήματος, να συνθλίβουν ατσάλι για πλάκα. Τίμησαν και τους τέσσερις δίσκους τους, παίζοντας τραγούδια από τον καθ’ ένα.

DOMINE
Έφτασε η μεγάλη στιγμή για τους DOMINE. Οι Ιταλοί θρύλοι του χέβι μέταλ πρόκειται να παίξουν δύο μέρες συνεχόμενες με διαφορετικά (σχεδόν) κομμάτια την κάθε βραδιά. Είναι η τρίτη φορά που επισκέπτονται την Κύπρο (1η το 2013, 2η το 2018). Η φωνή του Morby να αγγίζει τα ουράνια, τα riffs του Enrico να θερίζουν και γενικά η μπάντα να τα σπάει. Ακούσαμε τα έπη τους σε περίπου μιάμιση ώρα ζωντανής μουσικής, κλείνοντας με The Ride of the Valkyries και Defenders.

Ερχόμενοι από τον γειτονικό Λίβανο, αυτή η ιδιαίτερη μπάντα δημιουργήθηκε πριν από 3 χρόνια. Ο δίσκος τους "1666" κυκλοφορεί σε κεφάλαια, κομμάτι κομμάτι. Με διπλά φωνητικά, του Nigol και της Jessica, το είδος της μουσικής τους κυμένεται μεταξύ χέβι/power με το Ανατολήτικο στοιχείο να δείχνει τα σημάδια του. Μας έπαιξαν 5 κομμάτια από τον δίσκο τους. Είναι το τρίτο σχήμα με γυναικεία φωνητικά που πλαισιώνει το φεστιβάλ.

MARCH TO DIE
Ακόμα μια μπάντα με πρόσφατη κυκλοφορία, αφού πριν έξι μήνες, τον Νοέμβριο του 2023, κυκλοφόρησε το ντεπούτο τους "Tears of the Gorgon". Μπορεί το σχήμα να είναι καινούργιο, τα μέλη όμως που αποτελούν τους March to Die είναι μουσικοί από Κύπρο και Ελλάδα με πολυετή εμπειρία στο χώρο. Αυτό φαίνεται και από την σκηνική τους παρουσία, όπου το "βαρβάτο" χέβι μέταλ που προσφέρουν, σε καθηλώνει.

ACHELOUS
Η δεύτερη μπάντα στο φεστιβάλ από Ελληνικά εδάφη, είναι οι Achelous. Ερχόμενοι από την Αθήνα, έφτασαν με πολεμικές διαθέσεις και ρίχθηκαν απευθείας στη μάχη. Έντονοι, και γεμάτοι ενέργεια, δεν σταμάτησαν λεπτό να δίνουν πάθος, με τον κόσμο ανεβασμένο στους ίδιους ρυθμούς.

Η τετράδα-φωτιά δεν σταματάει να δίνει πόνο στη σκηνή. Είναι η τέταρτη και τελευταία μπάντα με συμμετοχή γυναικείας φωνής. Οι φανταστικές τους μελωδίες σε συνδιασμό με τα τετραπλά φωνητικά από όλα τα μέλη, δεν μπορούν να μην σε μαγέψουν.

ARRAYAN PATH
Ειδικό σόου από τους ARRAYAN PATH, μιας και γιόρταζαν 20 χρόνια από την κυκλοφορία του πρώτου τους δίσκου "Road to Macedonia". Μέσα σε διάστημα 3 μηνών, είναι η τρίτη φορά που τους βλέπω live επί σκηνής! Από τα 9 κομμάτια που έπαιξαν, τα 4 ήταν από το ντεπούτο. Αξιοθαύμαστο το γεγονός πως πέρασαν από την σκηνή και έπαιξαν ζωντανά διάφορα μέλη που αποτέλεσαν σημαντικό κομμάτι στην ιστορία της μπάντας από την ίδρυση τους μέχρι σήμερα.

DOMINE
Δεύτερη συνεχόμενη μέρα με headline τους DOMINE. Ό,τι και να γράψω δεν θα είναι αρκετό. Για 40 χρόνια υπάρχουν σαν μπάντα, και το πάθος, η ενέργεια και η αγάπη που βγάζουν για αυτό που κάνουν είναι απαράμιλλης αξίας. Τα κομμάτια που έπαιξαν τη δεύτερη μέρα ήταν μόλις 9 (είχαν προγραμματισμένα περισσότερα, αλλά λόγω απρόοπτου συμβάντος έπρεπε να διακόψουν πιο νωρίς το σόου τους), εκ των οποίων τα 4 παίχτηκαν και την πρώτη μέρα.

Γενικά το φεστιβάλ ήταν όμορφα στημένο, έγινε πολύ καλή δουλειά από την NSM Productions. Μεγάλο μπράβο στα άτομα που εργάστηκαν σκληρά και εθελοντικά για να στηθεί όλη αυτή η όμορφη γιορτή στο μικρό μεταλλικό νησί μας. Λείπουν τέτοιου είδους events από την σκηνή μας και πρέπει ο κόσμος να συνεχίσει να στηρίζει τις προσπάθειες των διοργανωτών για να συνεχίσουμε να ακούμε και να βλέπουμε ζωντανά τα αγαπημένα μας σχήματα.

The second Open the Gates festival is now written in the history book of the metal world of our island. A two-day full of epic bands, both local and from abroad.
ARS NOTORIA
The opening kick was made by ARS NOTORIA. The Cypriot Greek-speaking heavy metal band opened the stage, playing their own tracks from their EP released in 2023. Strong together on stage, with female vocals flooding from the speakers, the crowd loved it and started to filled the venue.Setlist:

This is the first time in Cyprus for the Greeks TRIUMPHER, and the first time I see them live on stage. Tremendous energy on stage, with a combination of heavy/power music where the voice sometimes reminds you of black metal. The band formed 5 years ago and released their debut album in 2023, and we've heard tracks from it. They also played a cover of Manowar's Blood of my Enemies.Setlist:

It had been quite some time since I last saw them live and I was really looking forward to hearing them again. You can't stop getting enough of the squeals from the vocal chords of Petros Leptos combined with the epic sounds of the band, crushing steel for fun. They paid tribute to all four of their records, playing songs from each one.Setlist:

DOMINE
The big moment has come for DOMINE. The Italian heavy metal legends are going to play two days in a row with different (almost) songs every night. It is the third time they visit Cyprus (1st in 2013, 2nd in 2018). Morby's voice reaching the skies, Enrico's killing riffs and generally the band at the ultimate epicness. We heard their epic gems in about one hour and a half of live music, closing with The Ride of the Valkyries and Defenders.Setlist:

Hailing from neighboring Lebanon, this special band was formed 3 years ago. Their album "1666" is being released in chapters, piece by piece. With double vocals, Nigol and Jessica, their music genre varies between heavy/power with the middle-east elements showing its signs. They played us 5 tracks from their album. It is the third band with female vocals that frames the festival.Setlist:

MARCH TO DIE
Another band with a recent release, six months ago in November 2023, they released their debut "Tears of the Gorgon". The band may be new, but the members who make up March to Die are musicians from Cyprus and Greece with many years of experience in the field. This can also be seen from their stage presence, where the strong and bold heavy metal they offer, captivates you.Setlist:

ACHELOUS
The second band at the festival from Greek lands, is Achelous. Coming from Athens, they arrived in warlike moods and threw themselves directly into battle. Intense, and full of energy, they never stopped giving passion, with the crowd tuned at the same level.Setlist:

The four-piece band never stops to amaze on stage. It is the fourth and last band to feature a female voice. Their fantastic melodies combined with the quadruple vocals from all the members is something enchanting.Setlist:

Special show by ARRAYAN PATH, since they were celebrating 20 years from the release of their first album "Road to Macedonia". Within 3 months, it's the third time I've seen them live on stage! Of the 9 songs they played, 4 were from the deput. Admirable is the fact that during their show they brought live on stage multiple members who were important part of the band's history from their foundation until today.Setlist:

DOMINE
Second consecutive day headlined by DOMINE. Anything I write will not be enough. For 40 years they have existed as a band, and the passion, energy and love they bring out for what they do is of unparalleled value. The tracks they played on the second day were only 9 (they had planned more, but due to an unforeseen incident they had to stop their show earlier), of which 4 were also played on the first day.Setlist:

Overall the festival was beautifully set up, a very good job done by NSM Productions. Well done to the people who worked hard and volunteered to set up all this great event on our little metal island. Such events are missing from our scene and people have to keep supporting the efforts of the organizers so that we can continue to hear and see our favorite bands live.
